Being that I'm at a community, it is not difficult for me to maintain my hair at all and my school is pretty diverse, so they are supportive.

Since i live in an apartment, i actually don't find it hard to maintain my natural hair at school. Luckily, NYC is more supportive of natural hair than where i'm from (Texas). It feels great to see so many natural women all over the city, since NYU doesn't really have a "campus" feel.

So far, i'm loving Party over Hair. I'd love to see more styling how-tos (keep up the youtube videos!)

Luckily I dont have any issues being natural while in college. Its actually alot less time consuming than when I was spending 20-30 minutes flat ironing my hair every day before class. I don't have alot of natural hair peers, but everyone seems to like/support my hair.

I'm a youtube junky so I'd love to see more tutorials.

I noticed alot of people stare at you more when youre natural. I guess its not too common so when they see it, it's like "woooow, look at her." As far as maintenance, who has the time?
I think Party Over Hair is perfect as it is, I'm more of a lurker and love this website, i'll try to be more active here though.
Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway!<3

  6. Hey! I'm Maya and I'm a senior at Princeton University. You can reach me at mreid[at]princeton[dot]edu. I'm trying to not spend my entire life social networking, so I don't have a twitter.
I had legitimately never considered wearing my hair in its natural state until coming to college. My first experiment with wearing my hair in it's naturally kinky curly texture happened sort of by accident, after an impromptu post-wash nap, and I didn't have time to press my hair before dinner, so I bit the bullet and went with my fro...and got a huge number of compliments. I eventually pressed my hair again at my mother's demand, but by the middle of my sophomore year, I had come into myself enough to embrace my natural hair, and have worn it as such ever since. The overwhelming majority of my friends and even strangers at Princeton have been incredibly supportive--some people even give me credit for starting a natural "movement" on campus.
More tips on fun styles are always welcome!

  8. Hi ^_^ My name is Maraiya & I'm a senior at Princeton University. My email is mhakeem@princeton.edu and my twitter is @princetonian12.
My experience of being natural in college has gone very well for the most part. But I think that's because I can do my own braids, sew-ins, etc. So the fact that there aren't places to go to get my hair done in Princeton hasn't really affected me. I actually had more problems from a few family members concerning my natural hair. Last year my great grandmother passed away and I was told by a family member that I should get my hair pressed for the funeral. Apparently, my hair needed to be straight so I could look 'presentable' for the event. -_- Out of respect, I got it pressed. I was cringing in the chair the entire time though. She didn't use a heat protectant and I'm still skeptical about what 'conditioner' she used in my hair (but that's another story). Since then, I've gone back to my braids and twist outs.
And more styles would be great. I'm going to try out yarn braids for the first time in a week or so, so I'm keeping a look out for loc styles that I can use :)

  9. Hi my name is Brittany Lofton and i attend Ferris State Univeristy in Big Rapids, MI. My email address is Mzmarie1920@yahoo.com and my twitter name is @SweetButFierce. I've been completely natural for over a year and my expereince with being natural in college has been great! At first people was kind of skeptical about my TWA but i didn't care and overtime people started to like it. My family liked it and encouraged me, however my peers were slow to accept it. I wanted to step out of the norm and since then i have been inspiring more people to do the same. Being in a small town it's hard for me to buy products for my hair so whenever i go back home i tend to stock up and yes i am a product junkie. I went from short colored cuts to curly fro's and locs and to be honest i am very proud of myself because i didn't i could do it!
I would like to see more styles for women with 4C hair types, locs, and short looks and also more product reviews. Thanks for the opportunity and also thanks for the great tips on natural haircare!

  10. My name is Mary A. and I attend the University of Florida. My email is malalade@yahoo.com, twitter is @naturaltwists. I went natural during my sophomore year in college and it was initially hard. Some people asked why I cut off all my hair and made ignorant comments. It kind of made me insecure of my decision. But I stuck to it. It's been well over a year and I've had many styles, some good some bad. It was tough to get used to my kinky coils, but my hair is flourishing. Funny thing is that some of the people who doubted my actions, are now asking me about how to go natural.
I would love to see more tutorials on this site.

Started being natural sophomore year because I got tired of getting perms and my scalp burning in that horrible chair. A lot of females at school say they like my hair when I do my twistouts.. guys don't matter. I find it harder to keep my hair moisturized in college since I'm so busy. And to keep protective styles in my head since flat-ironing it seems to be so much faster.. but then I realize it only lasts for about a week or so and I don't do it often.

I'd like to see more for girls with medium length hair instead o just short or long.

However I do have those times where I see someone with very pretty straight hair and I have the urge to go back. On those days I remind myself that I can flat iron my hair if I want it straight. I do get positive comments on my curly hair and even inspired my sister to become natural. As for Party over Hair I would like to see more posts about different hair types for example I have type 3b hair.Thank you for hosting this and supporting women in college.

I started going natural after I left a four year university for a two year college cause I was getting homesick :P. My hair was in a horrible mess and I didn't have the proper needs to buy the relaxer so I transitioned for two months while having purple hair. Having purple hair was a struggle. It broke my hair off and I was very unhappy. So I decided after this transition, I will do the big chop. I have a lot of supporters including my aunt (who has sister-locks), my mom, who been natural for five years and my best friend. I am so happy I decided to go natural. I am still in the TWA stage and it has been 7 months of being natural. I am proud of myself.
As for Party over Hair, I am new subbie so I already liked what I see so far! :)

It was hard being a natural while I was a RA, b/c I am on call 24/7, so sometimes I would be in the middle of a styling session and one of my residents would knock on my door and I would have to come to the door with a head fukk of flexi rods or Curlformers, and I would always fear that I would have to respond to a fire drill. I wouldnt want my non black counterparts to see me with my hair like that b/c I know they would not understand
I love to see features of other naturals

In the beginning of my transition no one noticed much, but now that I'm more than 10 months transitioning my hair is much thicker. I'm still playing around with easy styles for me. I definitely feel looks and stares from non black people. I feel like they're trying to figure out either what I'm doing or if this is some kind of phase I'm going through.

my school and city has less than 1% black population so it is hard to find natural products. However, being natural seems to be the only choice for most people. there are no black salons. I get plenty of support ( and obsession) from white classmates. But I don't hang over other naturals...

*My first year of college was after my 1st BC and I didn't really know what I was doing so I put it in braids. I've had to do a second BC due to an unfortunate trimming accident (the guy thought I had relaxed natural hair....O_O). But for the most part, I've just let my hair take 2nd place to school and tried to fit it in, but it hasn't been the priority for me. It is definitely harder doing hair and taking classes especially now that its shorter, but most of my black friends are natural, so we definitely support each other/share products.
I think I would like to see more on your journey, maybe weekly hair updates on what you do with your hair. I feel that with short hair, I don't have as much variety, so I think showing what you do with your hair regularly can help people just starting out!
(sorry its so long lol i get carried away)

  19. Hello!,
This is a very cool and generous giveaway!

I'm a senior at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
I can be reached at k.ceasar07@yahoo.com
    And via Twitter @Naturale_Beauti

I decided to transition to natural after transferring from a local
Community college to UH-CL. Being that UH-CL only admits
Juniors, seniors, and grad students, I'm surrounded by a more mature and open-minded crowd; so natural hair is pretty much
accepted. However, I'm still in the transitioning process so I have yet to experience what its like to be fully natural. Also, although there are few African American students at my school, I have noticed that the majority of them are natural, which is very inspiring.
As for maintenance, its been pretty cool for me since I live off campus; I have access to beauty supply stores that sell products for 'textured' hair. Although, I have yet to find any kinky curly products.
BTW, in order to receive/give support to/from other transitioners, I have created my own blog :)
Feedback: I am a new reader, but from my perspective "so far, so good' ; however in order to answer the ? , I would love to view transitioning stories and styles..particularly long transitioners since they would parallel to my story

-Being natural in college hasn't been that hard. Being at a school where you and other that look like you only count as 1.5% including staff and faculty, you would think it would be hard dealing with people and their reaction/view but its not. The hardest part has been maintaing a routine. Which is also the easy part. I have more time, but because of where I am at, its very hard to find the products I usually use. I was surprised to find a black hair care section in our local CVS last week, but with this great find came disappointment in the lack of products carried at the Whole Foods right next door. But with the help of Party Over Hair and CollegeCurlies, etc, I've been able to find recipes for at home mixes for everything. The black community at UCSD has been very supportive. Older students have connected me with others who have gone multiple routes in their natural journey and it's been a help. But you do come across those who are supportive but are set in their beliefs of what you should and shouldn't do with your hair (trimming for example) and that has been difficult but we've been able to agree to disagree.

-So far Party Over Hair has been wonderful. I would like to see some more reviews of products which has been my favorite part along with the deal alerts which are both very helpful to a college student who can see exactly what's up with a product before buying it.

I decided to go natural during my freshman year of college. With the heavy load of classes along with the cost of tuition, going natural was the best option for me. After 4 months of transitioning (about 2 inches of growth), I BC'd. The reaction from my friends and family wasn't too bad. They were more shocked than anything. As long as you feel comfortable with your decision on what to do with YOUR hair, the reactions/approval of others won't bother you. Just make sure youre doing it for YOU and no one else.

Im pretty new to the site but any natural hair care blog is automatically perfect to me! If I absolutely had to ask for anything more, it would probably be more protective style tutorials as I am a protective style girl (especially living in Houston where 103 degree weather and 60 percent humidity is the norm and you just want to keep the hair off of your neck)

Being natural at school isnt difficult AT ALL! I remember when I was transitioning, all my friends were just as excited about the end results as I was, so it was refreshng to have such support. I like to think I played a part in 2 of my friends deciding to go natural. Im still working on another friend lol. Theres a lot of natural in ATL so theres always some nice hair styles walking down the street, or some natural hair event going on.

Im new to the site, I came over from college curlies blog, but just browsing I can see you have a lot of nice features such as natural profiles. I would like to see more product reviews (if possible), but once I devlve more into the blog I would be able to give more feedback!

I am really grateful for the college experience; in this time of personal growth and adversity, ceasing to flat iron my hair has been an extremely rewarding benefit of the college process. I learned so much from other women on the campus about taking care of my natural hair. But one thing that has been difficult in the natural hair community is defining what it means to be natural for me. Did I do it for length? For rebellion? For health? But as I find more self-awareness and self knowledge, I found being natural makes me happy. Point blank :)

I am new to the site, came over from "for the fabulous and frugal" aka College curlies, but I would love to see posts about personal health- physical and mental, on the blog! Thanks
