Hair Tip of the Day: #12

Use mayonnaise to restore vitality and sheen to your strands.

A mayonnaise hair treatment is an effective hair conditioner that can help restore vitality and sheen to your hair. It contains oil, vinegar and egg yolk, which are all natural conditioners and cleansers that help in adding luster and shine to the hair. Mayonnaise is especially recommended for dry and overly damaged hair.

Simply apply a liberal coat of mayonnaise on your hair, making sure to cover strands from the root to the tips. Leave on for at least a half hour, then wash normally.

Hair Tip of the Day: #11

Use Rosemary Oil for Hair Loss & Thinning Hair.

Rosemary has been proven to stimulate hair follicles to make hair grow longer, stronger and thicker over time. Massaging rosemary oil into your scalp increases blood circulation to hair follicles, making the roots stronger and leading to less hair loss.

Hair Tip of the Day: #10

Use Grapeseed oil as a heat protectant.

Next time you're considering applying heat to your hair, use Grapeseed Oil to protect your hair from heat damage. Grapeseed Oil is able to withstand high heat (temperatures up to 450F), making it a great all natural heat protectant. It also absorbs into hair without weighing it down and excellent for adding moisture and shine. It is known for having a high content of linoleic acid which is an important fatty acid that supports cell health. Most importantly, it’s fairly inexpensive & can be found in most grocery and health stores.

Use a Clarifying Shampoo to Remove Conditioner Build-Up.

Most conditioners are designed to deposit a thin film of conditioning agents on your hair to reduce friction and add softness. These ingredients do not rinse completely away, however, even with the next washing. If you have hard water, it’s even more difficult to remove the residue.

To remove conditioner buildup, use a clarifying shampoo formulated with EDTA that can eliminate product-trapping minerals. For better results, use distilled water when you wash.

Not everybody experiences build-up, but if you do, you can also rotate plant oils and moisturizers like glycerin, honey, pureed banana and aloe vera gel with traditional conditioners. Washing with baking soda or using a diluted vinegar rinse can also help remove conditioner build-up.

Hair Tip of the Day: #8

Avocado is a natural moisturizer that helps hair growth.

Add avocado to a deep conditioner to make hair stronger, shiny and healthy. Avocado’s moisturizing essential fats make it an ideal fruit to use for hair repair. It leaves hair softer, more elastic and less prone to breakage.

Hair Tip of the Day #7

Add an extra inch to your hair with a tingling scalp-stimulating shampoo and conditioner.

When you massage your scalp with shampoos and conditioners containing peppermint or eucalyptus oil, you’ll feel a tingling sensation. This increases circulation and blood flow to your follicles boosting growth. According to New York City trichologist Phillip Kingsley, massaging your scalp for 30 seconds prior to washing will give you an extra inch of growth in one year.

Note: When doing my protein treatments, I tend to mix one egg in with the mayonnaise. You can try this, or just try using the mayonnaise by itself. It's up to you.

Hair Tip of the Day #4

Use Black Jamaican Castor Oil for thin edges.

[Source]

Is you hair growing lovely, yet your edges seem to remain thin? Try spreading a small amount of Black Jamaican Castor oil on your edges. For best results, I'd recommend using it daily, however you can use it as often as you'd like. You can follow with a wash or leave it in over night with a shower cap. You can also try putting a warm towel around the hair where you applied the oil for a deeper penetration. If you do this consistently, you should see results within a few weeks. You can also mix this oil with other oils, such as olive oil, jojoba oil coconut oil, etc. for more hair treatments.

Hair Tip of the Day #3

Dilute Your Shampoo.

Put about 4 tablespoons of shampoo into an applicator bottle (large) and fill it up with warm water and shake.

Buy an applicator bottle from the beauty supply store. ( I bought mine for $0.99)

Benefits:

  • You get more bang for your buck.
  • Loosens the shampoo; helps spread product throughout your hair easier
  • Allows you to target your scalp
  • Less concentrated; less of your natural oils being stripped out of your hair (LESS DRYING)

Don't like your shampoo watery? Add a pinch of salt and watch your shampoo thicken!

Hair Tip of the Day #2

Use sheer stockings as hair ties.

Wanna rock a fierce puff? Well, stop spending money on hair bands and pony tail holders that quickly lose their elasticity and snag your hair, and look in your drawer!

Simply take an old pair of sheer stockings and cut the legs lengthwise. Continue cutting horizontally to your desired length... and voila a hair tie.

To use, just create a tie or knot around your hair with medium tension. Note: Sheer is prefered because they have more slip, but regular stocking are capable of working just fine.

Pros:
  • Customizable
  • Cheap/ Easily replaceable
  • Doesn't snag or knot hair
  • Rarely falls apart

Hair Tip of the Day #1

Use An Old T-Shirt To Dry Curly Hair

Instead of a towel, use an old t-shirt to dry your hair. Towels can create a scrubbing effect on your hair, removing product and damaging curl. The smoother texture of a t-shirt will prevent frizz and help to maintain your healthy locks.

Squeeze your curls gently, never rub, in order to preserve your natural curl pattern. Move along in sections, taking a hand full of hair at a time. Keep in mind that overexposure to any type of touch can cause curly hair to lose volume or become frizzy. For best results, t-shirt dry each section of your hair only once. Be sure to squeeze out excess water and then let the final drying be by air.
